Welcome to the official homepage of the
West Point Speech Team.

Our Mission:
The Mission of the Speech Team is to train and develop the next generation of Army leadership as clear, confident, and successful communicators by competing in intercollegiate forensics.

The West Point Speech Team is a competition oriented team. We love to compete against the best the country has to offer.
The West Point Speech Team is multi-talented, never limiting ourselves to one topic of debate, but expanding all facets of our communication.
The West Point Speech Team is achievement focused whether that is winning the next APDA tournament, or improving your record by one speaker point.
The West Point Speech Team is a Competitive Academic Team that competes against schools around the country. The club offers cadets the opportunity to compete at the intercollegiate level in an activity that develops their public speaking abilities, argumentation and rhetoric and researching skills in a variety of challenging speech and debate events.
The team involves 30 Cadets and An Officer in Charge from the Department of Law. Recruiting and team leadership function on a yearlong basis. Team members come from all four classes and while prior forensics experience is valuable, none is required. The team program is designed to allow novice speakers to build skills by competing against some of the best programs in the country like Harvard, Dartmouth , Stanford, and Yale.
Additionally, team activities demonstrate the importance of teamwork, communication, and research. Team leaders (coaches, officer representatives, and cadets) place a high priority on development of leadership skills, and view club activities as a tremendous developmental opportunity for future military leaders. The team experience highlights the importance of training, competence, morale, motivation, and cohesion to unit success. It also provides extensive leadership opportunities for cadets that may otherwise not be available to them. Finally, the team offers positive social activities and events for cadets to get to know and build friendships with their peers at Ivy League and other prestigious institutions around the country.
The United States Military Academy builds leaders of character to meet the nation’s needs. The Speech Team provides a great opportunity for cadets to build and strengthen their public speaking abilities and researching facilities. The team gives cadets the opportunity to build up leadership skills they will use as 2nd Lieutenants in the Army, throughout their careers as officers and all through their lives.
